Impact of Direct Income Payments on Productive Efficiency of Korean Rice Farms AgEcon
Kang, Hye-Jung; Kim, Jeong-Ho.
This paper examines the impact of direct income payments on productive efficiency of Korean rice farms, using farm-level cross sectional data in 2006. For representation of efficiency and its determinants, this paper uses a model that estimates the deviations of farms from a translog distance function and the determinants of these deviations. This paper especially estimates a stochastic frontier production function to explain deviations from best-practice productivity with a two-part error term including statistical noise from measurement error and technical inefficiency arising from farms not reaching the production frontier boundary. The empirical evidence finds that farms that get a higher share of direct payments in farm revenue are less efficient than...

Productive performance and milk protein fraction composition of dairy cows supplemented with sodium monensin R. Bras. Zootec.
Gandra,Jefferson Rodrigues; Rennó,Francisco Palma; Freitas Júnior,José Esler de; Santos,Marcos Veiga dos; Silva,Luís Felipe Prada e; Araújo,Ana Paula Chaves de.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the levels of sodium monensin on lactating cows and their effects on productive performance and milk protein fraction composition. It was used 12 Holstein cows, distributed in four balanced 3 × 3 Latin squares, and fed three diets: one control without monensin, and two diets with monensin at the levels of 24 or 48 mg/kg DM added to the concentrate. Milk production was daily measured throughout the entire experimental period. The samples used for analysis of milk composition were collected on two alternated days from the two daily milking. Non-protein nitrogen, total nitrogen and non-casein nitrogen contents were directly evaluated in the milk, and casein, whey protein and true protein contents were indirectly...

Vitamin E and organic selenium for broilers from 22 to 42 days old: performance and carcass traits Anais da ABC (AABC)
ALBUQUERQUE,DANIEL M.N.; LOPES,JOÃO B.; FERRAZ,MAÍRA S.; RIBEIRO,MABELL N.; SILVA,SANDRA R.G.; COSTA,ELVÂNIA M.S.; LIMA,DANIELA C.P.; FERREIRA,JEFFERSON D.M.; GOMES,PEDRO E.B.; LOPES,JACKELLINE C.O..
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of vitamin E and selenium on performance, viability, productive efficiency, and yields of carcass, major cuts, and organs of broilers from 22 to 42 days submitted to cyclic-heat stress. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement with two levels of selenium (0.1 and 0.3 mg/kg) and three levels of vitamin E (300, 400, and 500 mg/kg), plus a control treatment. Animals were submitted to a natural condition of high cyclic temperature. Organic selenium levels of 0.1 and 0.3 mg/kg associated with 300, 400, and 500 mg/kg of vitamin E were tested. The level of vitamin E did not affect the performance or production efficiency of broilers in the period from 22 to 33 days and...
